What is Search Engine Marketing?

Search Engine Marketing (SEM) is the process of marketing a business online through search engines like Google, Yahoo, and MSN.

In our opinion, it is the best form of marketing there is because you are putting your product or service in front of people while they are in the act of searching for what you are offering. It’s much easier to market to an audience that needs exactly what you are selling.

It’s not enough to just have a website anymore. If no one can see your website when they are looking for your services, you don’t exist!

There are generally 2 main forms of search engine marketing. Search Engine Optimization (SEO), and Pay Per Click (PPC). SEO is the process of getting your sites to rank on the first page of the search engine for a specific keyword phrase. This takes time, a lot of work, and proper planning. PPC allows you to get on that first page immediately, for a fee. You pay a fee every time someone clicks your ad, which is displayed on the right side of the page.

The other fascinating aspect of search engine marketing is that you can measure the results immediately. If tracking is done properly, you can look at hard data and know, right down to the penny, if what you are doing is working, unlike traditional advertising, where it’s an educated guess at best.

Both SEO and PPC are a vital ingredient in any internet marketing campaign, and if done properly, can do amazing things for your business!
